About Young High School

Young High School, which was named for Dr. J.F. Young, was established in 1913. It merged with South High School in 1976 to become South-Young High School.. South had graduated its first senior class in 1952. It later merged with Doyle High School, which had been built in 1967 and named for the family of Mildred E. Doyle, superintendent of Knox County schools.

South-Doyle High was created in 1991 when Doyle High School and South-Young High School were merged by an action of the Knox County Board of Education. The campus includes both the former Doyle High campus (now the main campus area) and the campus for the former Doyle Middle school (now the Young campus).

Young High School was on Chapman Highway in South Knoxville at the intersection with Young High Pike. Today it is a shopping mall.
